Why is it that logic is suspended as soon as race and gender are invoked?

because people are unable to control their emotions enough to rationally address and assail an argument.

Instead they sputter and flail, which is quite humourous in my opinion

It used to annoy me a lot. Then I learned to speak postmodern academic and break them apart in their own language and was amused by it. I have some stories from NYU that are both terrifying and/or amusing depending on one's take.

As I head back into academia I need to be really really wary of it. In logic and historical fact I trust however.

especially since the arguments they throw themselves against, while logically sound in the careful way I phrase them are easily circumvented if one could just calm down enough to think clearly and logically about them.
