If I ever sleep?

the simple truth is rarely

A good night
brings maybe three hours

I am afraid of the dark
not when I am awake
but when I sleep
I have a terrible fear of the dark when I am sleeping

I sleep
from 6am to 8am
every day
and if my day goes easily
an hour or so in the afternoon

nightmares don't come during the day
only at night
that's why they call them nightmares

during the week
I make pathetic attempts at sleep
whether I am a sleep or not
I make myself lie in bed
often I lay, with a cat under each arm
running my fingers through their soft belly fur
and enjoying their company

if a nightmare is particularly bad
I will get up and get a drink
perhaps check my e-mail to distract me

I opened ICQ
last night
for the first time in ages
had 12 messages from one person
which ended with a birthday card
how she knew it was my birthday
I cannot fathom
but none the less
it was nice
and btw
i updated my info page
to include mah numbah

I went to the bank
to cash a check
the teller smiled
wished me a happy belated birthday
then told me
that since my ID had expired on my birthday
she couldn't cash my check

Sorry ma'am
you seem like a nice lady
but "cant" isn't part of my vocabulary
if you can't cash the check
lets get someone who can.

I hate being that self-possessed asshole
who takes ten minutes arguing
with the bank teller
while everyone is trying to get home

but this was ridiculous

Anyway
turns out
with some effort
they were able to
access my signature card
and cash the check

What the moral of the story

pick one that suits you....
plural: (Default)
A fable

Mr. Scorpion is walking though the desert
when he comes upon a river.
He want to cross the river, but cant swim.
so looking around he spots a frog.

"Mr Frog can you take me across the river on your back"

Mr. Frog is wary

"But you are a scorpion, you will sting me"

Mr. Scorpion replies
"It would not be in my best interest to sting you,
for I would be on your back and would drown as well"

Mr. Frog thinks and agrees,
Mr. Scorpion climbs on his back
and Mr. Frog begins to swim across the river.

About halfway across
the frog feels a sharp burning pain in his side
and realize the scorpion has stung him.

"Mr. Scorpion" he cries
"Why did you sting me, for now we shall both surely die"

"I cant help it"
the scorpion replied
"Its in my nature"

The moral of the story:

we do what is in our nature,
even if it is not always in our best interest.
