Sep. 20th, 2001 08:04 pmHow many of you support this war on terror?
How many of you would send your sons to fight it?
How many of you would go yourselves?

Date: 2001-09-20 08:15 pm (UTC)I wouldn't
I wouldn't
If only it was really a war on terror, maybe I would... If it was a war promising a brighter tomorrow, maybe I would... But this is the beginning of something big, something scary, and something that shouldn't be...
This is all very sad, and incredibly dangerous. The terrorists have won, they're plan worked perfectly. Such a war is going to unite more Islamic groups together against the USA and they're allies. The future's pretty grim...

Date: 2001-09-20 08:21 pm (UTC)well, i suppose i am weird this way buuuuut:
i do support it, but it's not something we can snuff out with a few bombs. the us needs to allow assination of people responsible for terrorist acts. afghanistan as a country is not responsible, and neither are muslims or islamics or any group in particular. although i do support the annhilation of the taliban govt. and osama bin laden as protagonists of terror. as far as other countries are concerned, i don't believe a strike is in order until such groups are found somehow responsible or connected to the wtc disaster.
i would not send my son (if i had one)
but i would go myself.
it seems that nobody in the middle east likes israel very much and i do think this might be part of the reason the us was targeted. i am NOT saying that i don't support israel though. i do support them, very much so in fact.
if you read the bible though some very interesting things are lining up almost exactly as it says they will. (in reference to israel and the united states)

Date: 2001-09-20 10:46 pm (UTC)And it's about being able to pure more and more money into their friend's military careers.
If I had a grown up son it would be his decision whether or not he should go fight this war.
I would not fight in this war or any other war unless it was in self-defense. I have not got it in me to kill unless I'm about to be killed. I'm not saying it's bad that soldiers can kill during war, I'm just saying that I know myself and I know I couldn't do it.

Date: 2001-09-21 01:02 am (UTC)I think it's too early for me to tell...
If this 'war' is going to involve carpet bombing and a large invasion force, I'd say no.
If this war is going to involve light bombing and commando raids I'd say maybe (depends upon whether or not their can be adequate restraint on who is targeted).
If this war is going to be faught mostly by the FBI, CIA and involves using political pressure on the Bin-Ladin's family (I have little doubt they could shed MUCH light on his financial structure), as well as gross intimidation of the swiss and other 'private' banking centers to rob him of his money, I'd be happy.
Am I right?
I didn't support the gulf war, prefering to wait for the sanctions to work... I'd probrably do the same thing today, regardless of the fact that in hindsight, they never would have really worked.
Not me.

I'm too old
There's no question in my mind that a military campaign is on the way, the success of which will be determined by the outcome. Will it go down in history as being Vietnam-like or succesful as WWII was? Only time will tell.
The other part that concerns me is that in the past all conflicts have been fought on foreign soils. There is real potential that the US could be an ongoing target/battleground in these exercises. That concept is unfathomable by today's Americans. A few more attacks and the Nuke'em sentiment is going to run high. That would be a costly mistake.

Date: 2001-09-21 10:15 am (UTC)new war if were under a different president 0-
that bumbling monkey boy does not speak for
52% of the population of this country, have
we all forgotten that? the jackassmotherfucker
actually refered to what we were going to
be doing as a "crusade." the jackass has no
comprehension of what that word means to that
part of the world.
it would be my son's or daughter's choice
as whether they decided to go.
again, under another president i would
consider it - but the BushMasterFlash in
very few ways represents what i think is
this country - he is just a silver spoon
fed southern boy who just got his face
slapped by a problem his father helped
create and now he is a consumate whiner.
