How many of you support this war on terror?
How many of you would send your sons to fight it?
How many of you would go yourselves?

It's tough to respond to this, I am in the Army Reserve which I think in times like these is a little tougher than being in the actual army, In the Active army your day to day life is spent in uniform. My everyday life is spent in Khakis in a high rise office building fixing people's computers. So on Saturday when I reported for my monthly training meeting and our commanding officer told us that if war breaks out it the question won't be if our unit will go but when, similar to gary hart's report that it wasn't a matter of if we would be attacked but when. So not surprisingly when bush put the Taliban in a position that they prety much couldn't get out of tonite I was obviously pretty scared. But am I worried about fighting, do I think what we are doing is wrong? Absolutely not. Certainly America has perpetrated wrongs on many nations both small and large but does that mean we now are not allowed to stand up for what is right? I think the pronblem with most Americans as that when the prospect of fighting occurs we either run hot or cold, We either tie ribbons around the trees in front of our houses as we did during the gulf war or wave our flags as we are doing now, or we spit on our soldiers and condemn our goverment as we did in vietnam. My political position has always been this, no matter what the reasons my nation has to enter war if the fight itslf is just then I am behind it. When we fought in the gulf and the naysayers said this is just a fight to keep oil prices low it is totally politically motivated I didn't care because the truth of the matter was that no matter what our motivation no matter in what way we were falling short of our goals, we were helping to liberate a nation by coming to the aid of kuwait. So when we poll the college students in this nation and they say "man if I get drafted (which really is not a possibilty now) I am fleeing to canada" All I really have to say no matter what you think of our government, no matter what evils you think they have perpetrated in the past, the intentions of this war (if we can call it that) are just, and if you are not one of those that is willing to serve your country to protect your compatriots freedom, then I don't belive you are deserving of that freedom yourself. So absolutely I am scared and you don't know how I dread leaving my cushy job and life but if my friends and fellow soldiers have to go then there is nothing that could keep me from serving along side them.
