I believe in a few basic truths

People are responsible
for their actions,
their inaction
and the general misery of their lives

If you are unhappy with
your life
then
change it

If you cant take a joke
you deserve to be fucked with

Do whatever you want in your bedroom
just don't expect me to join in or subsidize it

corporations
are designed
with one single purpose

to make money

that means
to create a product for the
lowest possible price
and sell that same product
for the highest possible price

corporations are not
in business to do
any of the following

Save the Whales.
Promote World Peace
Foster Social Equality

which means
that when a company
does
something pretty
they probably will find
a way to do it profitably
but
invariably
it is still more expensive
than
doing it
the ugly way

I look at
Southern Africa
and the aids epidemic there

it is a terrible thing

but profiting off of human misery
is damn near the holy grail of
human commerce

Your grocery store does it to you
Your department store does it to you
You did it to your parents as a kid
and
chances are
they did it to you

you don't think the grocery store
is making a profit off your personal human misery?

how fucking miserable would you be
if there wasn't a grocery store to sell you food

your grocery store
makes their money
while you are fat

are starving

give em credit

yell at em

to do something

best interest

grand socio-economic scheme of things

That's an interesting theory, but for some reason I find it a little tough to swallow that everything a corporation does is kosher as long as it is in the name of capitalism. Certainly you are right we cant expect anyone to do the right thing, but just because it is not law that people must meet our expectations doesn't mean we can't be disappointed, offended or down right disgusted when they don't. Also your little diatribe insinuates that for the eight ten or twelve hours that someone goes to work they are allowed to check their humanity at the door. Of course it is the way of our economy for a corporation to charge what the market will bare but I find your defense of these corporations just doesn't wash when their actions include ignoring environmental laws, putting products on shelves they know to be unsafe, and using sweatshops to create their sneakers. Somehow I find the excuse that hey it is just capitalism does not really justify having 15 year olds sew shoes for 16 hours a day in 100 degree rooms for 50 cents an hour.
