L twin cylinder, 4 valve Desmodromic, liquid cooled Displacement 916 cc Compression Ratio 11:1 105 HP @ 9000 rpm
(it has the same engine as the new 900supersport) (of course next year they come out with the ST4S which has the same engine as the 996R ummph *drool* I may have to upgrade)
used to ride an 81 Silverwing Interstate GL and before that a variety of mid-80s yamahas and kawasaki's and I have actually been riding longer than driving its a family thing every man in my family and a few of the women have owned and riden almost since there were motocycles and we were prolly sticking playing cards in bicycle spokes before that *grin*
The governing body of the 'superbike' (I think that's the name) class in the US, tired of seeing Harley Davidson get their ass whipped by imported four cylinder bikes, instituted a rule that limited four cylinder bikes to 700cc while allowing HD to run at approx 900cc while using two cylinders.
The 916 was Ducati's way of use this advantage in displacement to clean up in the super bike class...
(I give no claims as to the validity of this story...)
