mmm
well
obviously
someone has been
rather occupied recently
work has been hectic
and life has been
pleasantly occupied
with good company and
of course
a certain angel

hmm
so far the new year is delightful

on Monday we went to the
zoo and had a great time
despite the evils of
a particularly hateful
photo-postcard machine

I saw a young girl
maybe 16 or so
sitting on a bench
in front of an exhibit of
komodo dragons
which was spectacular
just as we walked in
she got up and said
in a spoiled whine

"can we go yet"

I looked to Amber and
whispered or at least
I thought I had

"I hate people like that"

she heard me
and cast a hateful glance my way
or so Amber tells me
I was enthralled by the Komodo dragons
and not paying further attention

Tuesday was a miserable day
at the office

but quickly improved after that
We met Jim (Savonorola) and his wife Tamara (Logos)
at the Seattle Art Museum for an amazing
exhibit of Sargent's work

we explored around after that
checking out the permanent and semi-permanent
exhibits and had much fun

then we went to the Owl & Thistle and
ate dinner and schmoozed where we met
up with Sera (Sera)

Wednesday or today as it may be
work was busy but productive
and I went shopping

I bought
a external raid array
and proper raid controller
for my server
72gigs in a raid5 config
am thinking of boosting it to 108gb

Bought Booze for my
bar and of course some for the party
I purchased the following

10.5 liters of Knob Creek Bourbon (Jim and Jacob, this is for you *grin*)
4.5 liters of Sauza Tres Generaciones Tequila
3 Liters of Stoli Vodka
1.75 liters of Saint Brendan's Irish Cream
0.75 liters DeKuyper's Sour Apple Schnapps
0.75 liters Midori
0.75 liters DeKuyper's Creme De Menthe
0.75 liters DeKuyper's 100 proof Peppermint Schnapps
0.75 liters Chambord
0.75 liters Leriche V.S.O.P. Armagnac (not the best but I like the flava)
0.75 liters Talisker 10y.o. Single Malt Scotch
0.75 liters 1981 Macallan single malt scotch
(a year younger than Amber *grin* and she will kill me for saying this)
0.75 liters Dalwhinnie 15y.o. single malt scotch

I also ordered a case (had to, they only do special orders in case quantity)
of Dr McGillicuddy's Peach Schnapps
which by the way, is the absolute tastiest
peach schnapps I have ever had
and
another 4.5 liters of Tequila
(they only had the one case in stock)

I went Tool shopping
on the company dime
bought POWER TOOLS
which only violates
three local and state ordinances
specifically banning me from the
possession and/or operation of
power tools

and finally
we went shopping
I needed a new wardrobe
desperately
so we went to Banana Republic
but I wasn't really that fond of their
current selection so I picked up a
pair of slacks and a two nice sweaters
they get the new stock (spring) on the 15th
so I will have to go back then
and then
we went to Old Navy
and they had a much better
selection than usual
so I managed to get
about half the stuff I need
tonight

all I need now is the formal wear
I am thinking I will
head down to Isadoras
this weekend and pick something nice out

I need some of those
mirrorish black leather shoes
so if anyone can recommend a place
to find them, I would be grateful

we were supposed to
go to Buongustos for dinner
but we were late and
they closed early because there
were no other customers

so we ended up going to
Guadalajara on the top of Queen Anne
the proprietor was getting ready to close
but seated us anyway
the food was delicious
and my margarita (on the rocks of course)
was perfect

other than that
things are
and continue to be
heavenly

although I must say
the temptation to leave
the office early has
never been stronger
than knowing she
is waiting at home for me

and my life
is blissfully
surreal

I like the less-peaty, more whiskey types of single-malt, but a lot also depends on my budget. My 'normal' brand is The Balvanie, either 10 or 15 year depending on my income level at the time (I don't like the double-barrel woody taste of the 12). Glenfiddich is fair, Glenlivet isn't bad, but neither are exactly rare -- kinda the Budweisers of single-malts. Picked up a bottle of Laphroaig (sp?) last month as it was advertised as the 'most flavorful of all single-malts' and I had heard that was true. For the most part, I found I can't even drink the stuff -- it's like drinking a smoke-bomb that went off in a peat bog. Though it did do a good job of clearing my sinuses when I was sick last week.

I like Glenkinchie and Cragganmore. I'll have to try the Oban and Lagavulin, though the 16 makes me think I might have to wait for the next time one of my contract bonuses comes through...I'll buy a good $50 bottle on impulse, but not much more than that. My fallback Balvanie is a much more easy to take $30.

I dont mind the Laphroaig if I have the right cigar to go with it

the oban is one of my favorites
the lagavulin is a darker and very tasty

actually with the exception of the
81 maccallan none of the scotch I have should run you more than 50 a bottle

tullamore dew

St Brandons Irish cream
instead of Baileys
has my vote!
But where is the
Tullamore Dew?
Any bar just is not
