Here's a link straight to the video. A guy on my friendslist commented with it a while ago. It's a blast! I through in mapping data on my post so you could see where it took place if you're familiar with Portland, it'll make sense.
Stupid rich people on hills + snow = Hours of spectator fun!
I especially love the folks who dont know how to use their 4WD but still think it magically allows them to drive anywhere and ignore the road conditions
No problem. I loved the clip and have watched it several times. I love how they think the Bimmer driver is going to be the stereotypical testosterone-fueled guy, and he ends up being the only one on the tape that actually controls his vehicle. LOL.
And this should all be in basic driver's ed and mentioned every time snow falls. AWD > RWD > 4WD > FWD. And then, only if you've spent enough time (just like hours in a plane, or hours underwater) on the type to basically qualify you for it. I'm a big fan of "driving with the right foot" as well. Because hitting the gas and/or hitting the brake can do you more trouble than good in so many varied situations.
I would seriously support a bill that made driver licenses a 6 month course (or whatever), like Germany does. If people want to drive, pony up $2000 and take a course that's as serious as the money you're plunking down.
Driving isn't a right, it's a privilege. And that's been completely forgotten.
nod well he was the only one who didnt try to drive like it was business as usual.
AWD > RWD > 4WD > FWD.
hunh?
people just need to learn to keep their speed down, and make any changes slowly and gradually. I find it hilarious to watch people who would have be fine but panic and slam on their brakes sending themselves into a spin.
i love those people. i live in the land of soccer moms and suvs and on the rare occasion we have the slightest bit of snow or ice we have bmws in every ditch and i drive by and wave. i learned to drive in illinois in the winter and i spent a lot of time intentionally putting my car into a skid so i could practice getting out of it.
I'd tend to agree, actually. I think FWD is bullshit in the snow whereas RWD is stupendous. I was really, really hoping to see how the AWD in the CRV would fair in the snow, but we haven't had a single flake yet this season.
I've noticed heavier FWDs (like my dodge caravan) do shitty in snow, while lighter ones (like my civic and corolla) do beautifully.
I think the reverse is true of RWD, although my experience with RWDs in the snow is flawed as I've only really spent much snow time in two RWDs one a light lil triumph (which was shitty in the snow) and the other a big beefy BMW which was great. Unfortunately there was a good 30 years of technology (among other things) separating the two to make the comparison a bad one.
I've always done fine with 4WD in the snow, of course I know how to drive 4WDs properly, I could imagine they'd be a bitch if you didnt. However, I think when properly driven a 4WD would be much better than either a FWD or RWD.
I have zero experience driving an AWD vehicle in the snow so I cant really comment on that.
My biggest problem with FWD is the loss of steering with too much acceleration. I guess it's mostly that I really need to t be able to steer with the throttle while driving in the snow...
As for FWD... I've never driven with it.
As for heavy, light... I never noticed a difference between either my volvos or old VW beetles in the snow.

that little car was all over the road
