and while my tendancies run along the same lines [if not quite as austere as yours] not to mention that I wouldnt use 90% of the phones capabilities
I'm still leaning towards getting one because its size meets my requirements and the buttonless interface look incredible usable [being pissed off at my new fancy mcpansy ass razr] [probably has something to do with it]
I like the idear of having what amounts to a maps.google driven GPS... And having an internet connected mac that can (presumably) also fire up mplayer could have it's advantages on the train.
my cellphone has two criteria making calls and being small but the more features they add to phones [that I have no interest in using] the more uncessarily complicated the UI becomes and the more annoyed I get
the iphone strikes me as simple, elegant and functional which are my three top criteria in purchasing anything
That'll take some surgery. My RAZR looks different from the others I've seen online as compared to the location of the SIM card, if this one actually has one.
for that price yes thats always the case you sign a contract you get a price break
no contract = full price
now I'll need to see one in person before I decide if its worth full price [even though I'm a cingular customer atm] because I'm not going to be in the states long enough to sign a 1 year contract [let alone a 2 year]
the battery, as i understand it, is non-removable. which is a cunt if you travel a lot.
this makes me assume that the sim card is also non-removable, the phone will be locked, etc. which, again, is a cunt if you travel a lot.
of course, if it really runs os x, someone will provide a hack, and you'll be able to use any sim. but not without quite a bit of hassle.
that said, the iphone looks amazing - paradigm-shifting even. scroll through the last few months of cell phone releases on gizmodo/engadget. they all look completely antiquated next to the iphone.
I heard about the non-removable battery as well but I have a hard time believing it will be accurate
first of all the same people who are willing to drop that kind of dough for a phone are the type of people who carry around multiple phone batteries as spares.
second, whats the point of making it a Quad-band GSM phone if you cant switch the sim cards out.
third, to my understanding FCC regs require direct access to the sim card and the abilitity to read the serial and ELN numbers
and yup it really does lets just hope they dont end up shooting themselves in the foot with crap like a non-removable battery

Date: 2007-01-10 12:24 am (UTC)just about all GSM sim chips are interchangable
[thats half the point of gsm]
I've been able to switch the sim chip from my razr
into other providers gsm phones to make calls
when my phone was dead
not sure who your razr is from
so I cant speak to your specific situation
but my understanding is that shouldnt be an issue
I also found this...
