Quick question for all my techophiles

I have a sony DVD/RW +- burner installed in my client machine.
[EIDE]

It reads and writes cds just fine
It will neither read nor write dvds
[it used to do both]

unfortunately reading or writing dvds is something I do rarely
mostly use it for the occasional archive or file transfer
so I have now clue when it stopped working.

when I insert either a dvd I've burned or a movie I've bought
it just says "please insert a disc into drive"

I've spent an hour testing read/write for both dvd and cd
but other than that I've not put much time into it
[I just discovered it and since I have an exam at 9am tomorrow]
[I dont have much drinking time left tonight]

but if anyone has an idea or thought
as to what might be the problem or solution
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

My brother had that problem with a DVD burning program. He had been renting DVDs like crazy with some special Blockbuster deal and burning copies of them all and then the program just..stopped working. I guess they FINALLY figured out what people were doing and changed it so you couldn't copy DVDs because of copyright protections. Which is really lame. But oh well.

There are ways to get around it; I could probably ask around.

that'd prolly be the case if it didnt work only with bought dvds, but it isnt recognizing the data dvds I burnt either.

so no love for you

You've been jamming your cock into it and ejaculating inside it again. Pull the drive out, clean it, and put it back in.

are you trying to burn data or trying to make a DVD copy? if the latter, is it a copy of a data DVD or a produced, movie DVD?

neither

I was just trying to read the data on a dvd

I tried both a movie dvd and a data dvd previously burnt by my burner
both resulted in a "please insert a disk into drive" error

days late, i agree with budhaboy.

you haven't identified the problem as necessarily being software vs. hardware, have you? my understanding is that, if in any order, the DVD functions break first, write then read. so DVD write breaks, then DVD read, then CD write, and then CD read.

what happens when you put in an empty DVD?
