End of the day
Jan. 21st, 2005 12:25 amdid a six hour shift on the hill tonight
the skiing was beautiful
we got about 7 inches of powder
during the afternoon/evening
a little wet/sticky but still mucho fun
was just getting ready to run sweep
[those glorious last runs of the day]
[when we have the hill to ourselves]
when the call came in
ski patrol come in
ski patrol here, go ahead
you're needed at the chalet asap
roger, on my way
zipped down the hill
popped off my skis at the chalet
and walked inside
there was a white male, 26
with a fractured right humerus
[upper arm bone]
it was a simple fracture
[meaning the bone did not come through the skin]
and felt like a pretty clean break
I applied traction to straighten the arm
and put a splint on to imbolize it
then sling'd him up
made him comfortable while he waited for his ride
pretty simple all in all
but I forgot how emotionally draining it is
the guy was a champ
even though he was in severe pain
but
the hard part is that
as careful as you try to be
you are going to cause more pain
when you straighten the arm so you can splint it
its rough
but I got me a nice tall dark and stormy
which I'm gonna relax with
then crash out
I'm filling in a morning shift tomorrow
so I have to be there bright and early
I talked with the patrol leader today
my usual shifts are going to be Sat/Sun 1-6
and filling in as needed since I have a fairly wide open schedule
anyway
I'm gonna play some Civ to unwind
talk to yall tomorrow

Date: 2005-01-21 09:30 am (UTC)The chance of winning is it fixed? That is, if you were to buy 1000 tickets, would the probabilty of success remain 1/2000 for each ticket, or would it become 1/3000? I guess put even another way, is a winner guaranteed every drawing?

Date: 2005-01-21 03:32 pm (UTC)and the odds are based on the number of tickets sold
so yes if you bought a thousand tickets
it would up the odds to 1/3000

Date: 2005-01-21 03:59 pm (UTC)Hey, I have an idea... You should start working on writing a TV pilot for a show about Canadian Ski patrol dudes... it could be like CSI meets Baywatch meets Dudley doo-right...
