To my fellow geeks

I've been trying to figure something out
and havent been having any luck
I'm sure it is something simple that I'm just overlooking
but its getting on my nerves

oh and before yall get too excited
I know IE sucks but I'm lazy

the problem is this

whenever I type in a url without adding a "http://" in front of it
instead of redirecting me to IE search or assuming http + .com
it loads a url to http://nkvd.us/[whatever I typed]

it started as part of a virus I got a while back
which I have successfully cleaned
but somewhere it wrote that into a file

I have searched the registry
and jacked into some of the dlls
to see if I could find a referrence without much luck

so I thought'd I toss it up here and see if any of you
would know where the cursed data string could be hiding

thanks much in advance

p

edit: [livejournal.com profile] iamjosh is the man, came through with a neat lil app that cleared it right up. Thanks again

Dude. The Stalin-era secret police have gained control of your machine. Drop everything and run!

Geeze, wouldn't it just be easer to install firefox?

eh

prolly

of course I've realized

the whole thing actually rather moot
as I'm gonna blow away the os in a couple week
and do a clean install

besides I like hex editing my registry keys
its soothing
