not much been going on recently

been playing some shell games
with other peoples money
trying to find a way to get
what they need done
without actually paying any money

you want to buy an stamp from frank
[for your collection dummy]
frank is very proud of it and will sell it to you
for one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars
which seems like a perfectly fair price to you
but the problem is you do not have
one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars
or if you do, you don't want to spend it

however you do own another stamp
[which you do not like as much as frank's stamp]
which you could easily sell for
one hundred and fifty thousand dollars

unfortunately
one hundred and fifty thousand dollar stamps
do not exactly sell like hot cakes
so if you wait until you sell your stamp
before buying frank's stamp
you take the risk that someone else
might buy frank's stamp in the meantime

so what you have to do
is find away to buy frank's stamp
and then sell your stamp
without coughing up
one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars

the answer is of course simple

you borrow the money to buy frank's stamp
until you can sell your stamp
then you use the money from selling your stamp
to pay back the loan that you used to buy frank's

of course the trick is to pay as little as possible
for the privilege of using someone else's money

and of course
whenever you are dealing with large amounts of money
it requires pages and pages of paperwork
heavy usage of Fedex
and way too many phone calls

so yeah
not exactly exciting stuff
to write home about

then today was spent
dealing with customs and border security
as I am bringing a horse up here
from the states in the next few days
and that requires another
six inch file folder of paperwork
veterinarians certifications
and then I have to promise
that the horse is only up here temporarily
and that I will not sell it or leave it here
when I leave
with about a billion different forms
and of course
leaving my left kidney as a deposit.
to make sure I don't
accidentally leave it behind when I leave

in better news
bettie [my ducati]
should be repaired by the end of next week
which means I have to figure a way to get it up here
and deal with all the customs crap again

actually in both cases
horse and motorcycle
it is really only a problem
if I am not present at the border crossing
when it is being imported

I have no intention
of being there for the horse
that would be way too much of a pain in the ass

but
I have been thinking about
popping down to the vineyard
for a week of R&R in early june
and am looking at the possibility
of shipping bettie to boston
taking her to the vineyard with me
then riding her home from there
a nice 15 hour road trip
mmm
mmm tasty

but while that would solve the customs problem nicely
not to mention be a good bit of fun
we shall have to see if it works out
too many things up in the air on that one
to call it anything stronger than a wish

ah, we shall see

I spent wednesday volunteering at the synagogue
they have an annual bazaar
the proceeds of which go to charity
and I was asked to come help out
I got placed in menswear
hawking "imperfect" jeans
for 5 bucks a pair

I sold about a hundred pairs
schmoozed a bit afterwards
and heading home
it was good fun

I need to find some more regular volunteer work
around here
as it is good stuff

last night
I made a huge veggie stirfry
you see, I have been
courting dating
umm
sleeping with I guess
a girl who is a vegitarian

so I wanted to try my hand at some vegitarian dishes
I cubed and fried up some tofu
which didnt go so well
I think next time I will try the extra firm
instead of the just plain firm
cause it was crumbling all over the place

anyway
it tasted good
even if it didnt quite work how I wanted
and I have a whole bunch of left overs

it is just me or is that such a chick thing

I do not think I have ever met a male vegitarian
who was not either

1) gay
2) dating a female vegitarian
3) wanting to date a vegitarian

personally
I do not eat that much meat
but
I do not think I could date a vegitarian

because
as a guy
if you date a vegitarian
you are a vegitarian

of course
it isnt discussed or anything
you just get the evil eye
and the hissy fits
to drive the point home

personally my stance on vegitarianism
is pretty simply
[not to mention ganked from somewhere else]
[not that I can recall where]

"If god didnt want us to eat animals, why did he make em out of meat?"

of course
I should be fair
there are really two kinds of vegitarians

1) The "I only eat ugly animals / eww gross dead animal"

or

2) The "I think it is a healthier diet / I feel better when I dont eat meat"

the first kind is laughable to me
the second isnt much better
especially considering how many vegitarian friends I have
who have gotten anemia from a poor diet

personally I think a lot of the problem
is that we overindulged in the meat

humans are omnivorves
we are supposed to eat everything
that means some meat
some veggies
some grains

a nice balance

trust me
the folks whose diet consists of

hunk of meat & type of potato
[dont forget the beer to wash it down]

arent doing themselves any favors either

the way I see it
god when through all this trouble
to make a billion different edible things
it is the least I can do to at least try them all

never understood people
who could eat the same thing
over and over again

it used to drive me nuts as a kid

every damn day
the same damn lunch

cheese sandwich
carrot sticks
apple
crackers

I still bear the scars

not that I didnt like all those things
or that I couldnt have changed it
seeing as I made my own lunch
since I was like 5 or 6

but really
what else are you going to make
peanut butter and jelly?

I simply resigned myself
to the reality
that my childhood lunches
where destined to suck
so
spared myself the bother
of trying to pretend I could
make some improvement

not that it really mattered
what I made
because by the time lunch rolled around
it had all been compacted into
some big nutrient ball
at the bottom of my school bag

I stopped packing a lunch
about 6th grade
well no
I still made the lunch
and took it to school
I just collected them as a science experiment
in my locker

you see sixth grade
was when I started earning money
and learned that you could
sneak down the street
and buy something hot and tasty

for a few months
I used to have lunch fairly regularly
at this restaurant called the blue pelican
it doesnt exist any more
but it used to be right on the water on lake union
[for you seattlites]

I was working my ass off all weekend
to pay for the fourteen dollar cheeseburgers
and six dollar beers

but it was worth it

it was then I realized two very important things about life

the first is

school is a lot easier to manage
when you are fucked up

this strategy skated me through the unending boredom
of middle and highschool

and the second was

nice restaurants rarely check ID
especially if you tip em twenty bucks
and can order without some sort of
uncomfortable, i am trying to get away with something, pause

this realization got me laid
countless times in highschool

you see
the liquor control board
doesnt send teenagers into the plaza hotel
to try and buy booze

they send them to 7-11 and bert booze mart

why
because thats where kids try to buy booze

in their mind
what kid is going to go to a forty dollar a plate restaurant
and order and seventy five dollar bottle of wine

I am sure I am not the only one
in fact, I know half a dozen others

but the point is
the restaurant isnt worried about getting busted
and especially if you are a regular that tips well

so greed overcame virtue every time

but anyway

it is a good thing I never had to pay for my drugs in highschool
because I never could have afforded both habits
on the couple hundred bucks I earned each week

anyway
I have been up since four thirty this morning
thanks to the antics of the every lovely isabel
and am just beat
so I think I am going to watch a movie
to burn some time
before I can crash out

if I sleep now
I will just wake up around two am
and the sleep cycle
will be even more fucked than usual

anyway
just thought I would ramble your way
since I was slumming through sleep deprivation
and it is so much easier to ramble insanely
when you are sleep deprived.

deep fried tofu dipped in garlic/vinegar/soy sauce dressing is good. i used to be a vegetarian since i was a child. i tried meat. then got off it. then tried it again. then off because i felt guilty eating cute little stressed out animals. now i'm on again. i should make up my mind.

i like your posts. you're interesting.
From: [identity profile] plural.livejournal.com
I was going for fried tofu

in a soya/curry/paprika/pepper sauce

it didnt really work

the tofu fell apart
instead of having cubes
I had mostly crumbles

ah well
I will try again with extra firm tofu

incidently
I was also vegitarian as a child
swung heavily towards meat in my adolescence
and now
eat it a few times a week
although I tend to prefer chicken
I try to eat red meat once a week
get them b vitamins and stuff
*grin*
From: [identity profile] girl-bot.livejournal.com
everywhere, huh?

then you're cookin' your tofu wrong boy! go to an asian supermarket, buy the non-silky one, and deep fry like crazy. it tastes better than meat. i think. but i like my food bland :P

fast response. i like that.

have a nice day.
From: [identity profile] plural.livejournal.com
oh yeah

*soft smile*

so I noticed

asain supermarkert?

sorry love but I am in bumfuck
great white north

aint no such thing as an asain supermarket

which is entirely too bad
I used to love the one near my house
long time ...

I cant say tofu works for me as a meat substitute, but as a seperate food group, I rather like it
[and other soy products]

bland?

oh baby you are missing out

I like it bursting with flavour
and perferrably spicy as hell

although
I must admit
half the fun of eating spicy food
is seeing the look on your friends face
when out for thai food
the waiter asks how spicy
and I reply

"Pretend you are cooking for your brother
and then you decide to play a practical joke"

mmm
well
I suppose one must be quick at something
*wicked grin*

and dahlin
I am having a most marvelous day

half a bottle of a smooth merlot
never does you wrong

mmm

I hope you are having
half as good an evening as I am
because if so
you are among the very lucky few

*wink*

nice to meet you btw

you've been added
From: [identity profile] girl-bot.livejournal.com
oh, you're in canada eh?

;P canadians are cool.

i have relatives there. they're filipino.

my evening is good. it's a weekend!

flavour is fine. i like spicy. like indian or thai food like pad thai. i could care less about burgers and barbecue.

do you have some sort of messaging thingy? you reply awfully fast. :)
From: [identity profile] plural.livejournal.com
yep

and I aint no stinking canadian

once bush gets over the video tape of his daughters and the llama, I will be able to come home again

till then I am in exile

*wicked grin*

filipino eh?

one of my best friends in the world is filipino
I have known her for nearly 14 years
we get in all sorts of delicious trouble together

flavour is divine
I adore both indian and thai food
but I can agree about burgers and barbecue

although a nice angus beef burder
with pepper jack cheese and
sauteed jalapenos can be quite tasty

and yes I do

on aim my SN is "misterplural"

as for my replying
I am sitting at my computer writing another post
so
its pretty easy to be quick
but
a caveat
I am not always, nor usually
this quick
From: [identity profile] girl-bot.livejournal.com
oh. mine is yahoo. would have been nice to chat. you seem interesting. you remind me of my friend back home. he's an eccentric and speaks in haiku at times. he's cute. but he's far away. and i will never see him again. i think. ah well. who cares?

i don't care for steak. my stomach is sensitive and cannot stand the texture of beef. i am also lactose intolerant. so i like soy.

yes. i agree with you on dubya. i am in az. many admire him. i feel like smacking them with a wad of newspaper everytime i hear their babble.

llama? am i missing something?

i like canadians. yes i'm filipino in origin. delicious trouble? like dirty stuff :P?

i added you too. looking forward to your posts and comments if you wish to do so in mine :). you seem nice. not like others.
From: [identity profile] plural.livejournal.com
mmm
I have a yahoo as well

"johannrourke"

llama?

ah

it is an old joke

see there is this theory
[which I refuse to dignify with a refusal]
[yeah thats it]

that the reason I moved to canada
was because dubya found the video
I made with his daughters and a llama

like dirty stuff?

well
how bout I take the fifth
there
I wouldnt wanna
scare you off too quickly

*wink*

as do I

I tend to be sporadic about commentig
although I almost alway read

not so sure about nice
as I am something of a
spectacular asshole
but
I tend to be fairly kind

From: [identity profile] girl-bot.livejournal.com
no problem with commenting. just as long as you post often enough. i tend to "de-friend" inactive users as i don't like having many "friends". i try to stay under 30.

i'm not scared easily sir. unless it includes bloody gore.

i will add you to my YIM. if that's okay.

have a good evening. have fun with your vegetarian girl!
From: [identity profile] plural.livejournal.com
yeah

I have slow moments
but tend to post fairly often

nope
no bloody gore

my?

nah she isnt mine

more like I am borrowing her
