Insanity marches on
Nov. 6th, 2004 12:42 pmI've invited two of my political science professors to dinner a week from now (they're an item)
so that we can finally rant and rave about whatever comes to mind
without having the constraints of time or the assigned class topic
interfering with our babbling
and I've decided to go all out
seeing as they moved here from the city
and would actually be able to appreciate it
as opposed to the local yokels here
where my casual efforts easily match the finer restaurants
working on the menu at the moment
here is what I am thinking so far:
To start:
Crudites with balsamic dip
Purple potato vichyssoise with roasted garlic
Main dish:
Pan-seared Muscovy duck breasts with cassis compote
Sides:
Roasted winter vegetables with rosemary and calamata olives
Balsamic Cippollini onions
From the cellar:
1990 Balmoral Syrah
[from an old vine vineyard in McLaren Vale]
[absolutely divine]
Dessert:
desert I am unsure of but I am leaning towards
Glazed figs with Mascarpone cream
accompanied by
Consenting hot chocolate
[scratch hot cocoa with creme de menthe]
and I still need to figure out an aperitif
anyway
so now I have to scramble like mad to a) see what can be acquired in Sydney
and b) have what cannot shipped in by Friday so it can be ready for Saturday evening.
in other news
my last midterm is on Tuesday, so the rest of this weekend is shot
[especially since I have neglected a few of the readings for that class]
I have gotten three midterm assignments back so far
the letter grades assigned were
A, B+ and A- respectively
go me
today would be a glorious day for mother to decide to return my calls
I've only left her a message every day this week
but oh well
it isn't like I was the one doing her a favor or anything
*smarmy grin*
oh screw it, I'm off to the gym

Date: 2004-11-06 08:25 pm (UTC)and I'm not locked in on the dessert
mostly because I am not sure if I can get fresh figs in time
[dried wont work for this recipe]
my impression of my guest is that they are fairly cosmopolitian and open to try anything sort of people so I'd wager it would work out.
when I asked em if there is anything they either do not eat or do not like they responded "nope, we eat everything"
