Death of a cellphone (Gimme your digits)

so

as many of you know my cellphone went playing in traffic
and suffered a grievous injury leading to an untimely death

This means my previous address book is toast and unrecoverable

So, I do not have any of yall's phone numbers any more

so if you want me to have your number(s)

fill out the poll below

[Poll #346870]

oh

some of you I either already know when a good time to call is,
or I just dont care and will call you any old time that suits me

if you are one of those, you prolly know it
if you arent and want me to call leave times of the day it is best to reach you

I will try to fit everyone in for as long as it interests or amuses me to do so,
but I have no idea if that will be five minutes or five days

yeah I love you all so

please dont be offended if you dont get a call

and

please dont be offended if you do

I presume your number hasn't changed?

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Your home phone is a '900' number?

What do you charge a minute?

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll give you the rabbi's rate

only 1.99 per minute

I just sent you an email to your old hotmail account (I have no idea if you are still using hotmail or not anymore with the information I now currently have... I think the address is obsolete.

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
yep

hotmail is still my primary email
[and I dont plan on changing it]

and

I done responded to that email

also maybe you can help me out

I want to set up a number as a local number for people in DC & Baltimore (you, my sister, and others), but I am having trouble getting a hold of anyone at verizon (who I assume is the local provider) who will talk to me without an account number or who can identify their ass from any number of holes in the wall.

I tried using your number and my sisters to overlap but the system I used was all sorts of buggy and so I dont trust its results.

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
how are you setting up local numbers?

Are you using vonage?

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
indeed I am

its pretty sweet

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-09 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I was seriously thinking about going voip, but after that hurricane, I decided we needed to have a land line. Since Verizon started offering $69/month land line with caller id, call waiting, voice mail, and two other services I can't remember, plus unlimited nationwide/canada long distance I just couldn't justify it.

If I made more international calls (Canada is just a state after all), I suppose it'd be worth it.

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-09 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nodnod

they dont offer anything like that in canada
they are still on the old screw you in the buttocks forms of telecommunication.

so far vonage has been pretty sweet and it will let me drop my cell phone bill from 350$ a month down to around 150$ and for that kind of money you can justify a lot of things.

not to mention I can travel with it, all I need is a 90kbps connection and I can plug my phone in and be up and running.

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-09 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
I here there are cell phones coming (or have arrived?) that will alternate between either a traditional cellphone network, or VOIP if it is available...

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-09 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
well you'd have to have an alternate broadcast medium to connect to a VOIP system

but something like the 2.4ghz system I have installed in the house would work

man, that would be sweet

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyway, there's a funny thing about the assfucks known as verizon... they charge long distance for any call in a different area code (unless, of course you have verizon long distance)...

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-08 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
in other words

since verizon is the telco out there

its pretty much impossible to get a central number
that isnt ld?

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-09 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
That has been my experience... However with that new deal they pimped hard last winter I suspect very few people actually pay for long distance anyway.

You may wish to just get a number in your sister's area code so she can make calls (I am presuming she is limited to a pay phone, or that she is billed some outrageous rate for LD?)...

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2004-09-09 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
yeah getting a local to her number is the priority for exactly what you mentioned, I was just hoping I could find a way to include DC in there when doing so
