in vino veritas
Dec. 1st, 2000 03:45 pmmy cellar has been desperately
in need of an infusion after
the series of wine tastings I hosted
this fall
so shopping I went
for the early winter selection,
of course by some quirk
my vintner is no longer able
to ship to me here in Seattle
so my eight cases must make
a pit stop in Wyoming
before being forwarded on...
a pity
the seasons selections:
1999 Mas Grand Plagniol Rouge Cuvee Prestige, Costieres de Nimes, France
1999 Dom. J. Laurens Cremant de Limoux Brut Blanc de Blancs, France
1999 Swiss House Huxelrebe Beerenauslese Bermersheimer Seilgarten, Rheinhessen, Germany
1999 Nikolaihof Gruner Veltliner Federspiel im Weingebirge, Wachau, Austria
1997 Dom. Cady Coteaux du Layon Saint-Aubin Les Varennes, Loire, France
1997 Pierre Soulez Savennieres Chateau de Chamboureau, Loire Valley, France
1996 Franz Kunstler Estate Riesling, Rheingau, Germany
and the prize
of my search
a hidden beauty
1997 Rosemount Estate Syrah Balmoral, McLaren Vale, Australia
con tolleranza del dio

a little of this a little of that
Date: 2000-12-04 11:41 pm (UTC)I have a delightful stock of reds
primarily from chile and argentina
I have become very fond of the Bogeda Norton selections recently
the reisling is divine, this will be the third case I have consumed this year, I highly recommend it
I really have no preference between white or red, the wine to fit my mood tis all
but I consumed many more whites during the summer and fall then reds. besides the reds I buy tend to have a longer shelf life so I dont buy them as often
and yes
the balmoral is divine
btw will you marry me?
whine and dine

Date: 2000-12-06 09:47 pm (UTC)I have longed for a woman who knew the difference between a pinot grigio and pinot meunier.
as for the reisling, I am not sure, I have only looked for it in one place
and there I found it
I can check with some of my local
vintners if you wish. I have not seen
it here, but also have not looked
Re: whine and dine
Date: 2000-12-06 11:21 pm (UTC)wineries not to miss
Date: 2000-12-06 11:46 pm (UTC)a list
far too long
perhaps if
you specified
a geographic area
I could offer
a few of my favourites
ah, so, the voice of reason
Date: 2000-12-07 12:10 am (UTC)the voice of treason?
Date: 2000-12-07 02:53 pm (UTC)you will force
my hand
and that I must
reveal my secret
I loathe
washington wines
what it is
I know not
but I would rather
drink
the black waters
of the danube
I have heard
rumors of some
delightful small
vineyards in the east
and tremble with
anticipation
but as of yet
have not managed
to bring myself
to do so
Re: the voice of treason?
Date: 2000-12-07 09:15 pm (UTC)Hmmm, I am afriad I do not have enough experiance to look down on paticular geographic region. So what's a girl to do if she wants to go wine tasting and Wa is not the state to do it in.(Aside from going to a different state) Teach me, I am eager to know.
does it make your heart weep
Date: 2000-12-07 11:14 pm (UTC)that I was not
properly introduced
and during
our ensuing relationship
was never to feel fulfilled
Actually when it comes
to californian wines
I dont particularly favor
one valley over another
I tend to pick selectively
from them all
Well just because
a winery isnt located here
doesnt mean you can't find
a tasting of its wines
many wine shops
have tastings
and there are
a number of individuals
who do so as well
of course
you can be one of
those if you wish
a wine tasting is
actually rather
inexpensive to put
together
I used to
before I started fully hosting my own
invite friends over
ask everyone to bring a $10 bottle
from a particular region
of a particular type
say reds from south america
and we would drink
schmooze
and usually get sloshed
but over time
we learned
in the best manner
through trial and error
what we liked
disliked and what the
differences were
between them
I do not believe
in classes to learn
to appreciate wine
any more than I believe
in classes to appreciate art
you can not be taught these things
they can only be felt
either it strikes your heart
or it leaves it empty
forget pompous talk
of bouquet and tannen
while it is handy to
know to communicate
to others, it is
completely the wrong
focus
I want a wine
which makes my heart
sing with joy
at the first sip
and murmer softly
on each thereafter
