Life with Cats

[plural]

I was napping on the couch, sort of half asleep
Isabel (the kitten) hopped up on the couch and was looking around
I slid my hand out to pet her and apparently she thought I was out cold
because it scared the crap out of her
she did the vertical jump complete with mid-air back arch
and started backpeddling before she landed
which of course resulted in her flying backwards
off the edge of the couch when she landed

I was nearly in tears laughing
because thats the sort of person I am
and she went over by the fireplace
and started cleaning herself with a smug
yeah, I meant to do that look

cats are so funny

one thing I can never understand
is their fascination with my using the toilet
I dont recall any of my other cats sharing this
but with these two
they come running
as soon as I cross the threshold into the bathroom
and hang out by the door

watching me

Carlisle used to come wind himself between my legs
rubbing against my calves

which was just freaky to me
so I nipped that the bud

but today Isabel out did him

I was sitting on the can
double checking some documents
that I had to send out

I do my business and set the papers down
I go to pull up my pants and Isabel is sitting in them
looking up at me

and if that wasnt enough

I am picking up the remains of a roll of paper towels
that crassly offended one of my cats
when I notice a red stain on the floor

I look closer
and yeah, it is blood

I look around and sure enough about a foot away
there is another one
each stain a lil smaller than a postage stamp

I follow the tracks from the living room
around the dining room
and through the kitchen to the back door

then I go hunt up both the kitties
and subject them to an inspection
to make sure they arent injured

and both are in tip top shape

which was a relief
although it means that either
a) some other wounded animal was in the house
or
b) one of my cats killed something then tracked blood into the house

but either way
it is an odd thing to find a bloody trail winding its way through your house
