Bizarre American History

not entirely accurate, but well it amused me

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Lincoln was shot at the theatre named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theatre and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theatre.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Marilyn Monroe.

Wow. That is really...

Wow.

Talk about history repeating itself!

Both men had last names with seven letters. Seven rhymes with eleven which is the number of letters in the word coincidence.

Man, that's creepy.

Really, I'm getting chills.

lincoln's secretaries were john nicolay and john hay
booth was born in 1838, not 1839
[and he was born in maryland, making him a northerner]
marilyn monroe died a year before kennedy did

FYI: maryland is south of the manson-nixon line, so technically, it is in dixie.

maryland's in dixie, but was it southern?
it was kind of a paradox i guess
it didn't secede but slavery remained legal (like delaware)
but it probably would have gone to the confederacy if not for the union garrisons all over the state
i dunno what that makes it

(like delaware)
heh.

Funny thing about delaware. My wife was told that Delaware was sliced out of the original state of maryland because of the inordinate amount of Protestants (specifcially presbyterians). Apparently, if you go there, you can still find a lot of the more 'scotish' dishes in the 'native' diners.

damn, somebody already beat me to it! i am from maryland, and i would consider it a northern state. we are "the old line state" due to the Mason-Dixon line. but really, there's nothing southern about this place. The Booth house is about twenty minutes from where I live and it's creepy. Booth carved his intials into a pane of glass in his bedroom, and there is a creepy grave yard where someone dug up the remains of his sisters. This is all boring and blah blah blah, but I'm a dork so there.

i think my favorite "coincidence" in the Lincoln-Kennedy story is the last one...
