Helmut Newton died in a car crash today
he was 83

it is always weird
when a stranger who has had an impact on your life dies

from my first years of playing with a camera
I remember seeing his work
and wishing to capture such beauty

there are many other photographers
which I feel that way about
however they did not die today

I never know how to feel exactly
I do not even know if it is sad really
at least to me personally
obviously most any death is sad theoretically

So now as I prepare to go out for the evening
I shall pour myself a neat glass of excellent scotch
and enjoy a silent toast to a man
whose work I greatly admired
