It is good to be the king

[plural]

had a little party
at my place tonight

just intimate friends
and some fine honeys

apparently one of the neighbors
called the cops about the music
being too loud
[it wasn't]
[just a mellow undertone]

so this cop bangs on my door
and I step outside to deal with it

we are talking
and he claims he can hear
the bass from there
which is complete bullshit

and I say so
he cops an attitude
and asks me if I am either deaf or stupid

which was the wrong move
I explain to him
that I am being entirely civil
and will not tolerate an attitude on his part

my dear friend Dave
[who happens to be the chief of police]
rolls out the door
to see if there is a problem


I just smile
and say nope
it is all good

this kind officer was just leaving
he smiles
and says
"that is a good thing
because I am having a good time
and
I would be very disappointed
if there was a problem"

a soft smile
and
gentle wink

and I walked back inside
to make another drink

being the king [ or queen in your case]

is not something you figure out

it is inate

I am not the king because I decided to be
but simply
because it is who I am

I could not be something else
no matter how much I wish it

I learned long ago to accept my fate
and work with it the best that I am able
