I opened an
absolutely fabulous chianti

while passing time waiting for my train

amazing how easy the hours pass
with a nice bottle of wine
and the writings of margaret atwood

Pompei was amazing although somehow
my seventh grade latin class left out
the fact that they were utterly obsessed with sex
[maybe I would have actually paid attention in class]

anyway
I spent some time on the beach
in naples afterwards
which was quite pleasant
and
brought understanding
as to the nature of all the postcards
[of naples, supposedly her premier attractions]
[although thats only an assumption based on volume]
which I saw in pompei

watched several snooty sorority girls
miss the train to rome
which was mildly amusing
[i tried to tell them]
[that the doors on the other end of the train]
[were open]
[but they were being all huffy]
[so I proceeded to use said doors to board the train]
[and waved with a kindly smile from my first class window seat]
[as the train rolled out of the station]

I went out again last night with
the girl from new york city
[wasnt she pretty]

had fun but didnt feel much like
working the charm or anything
so we schmoozed for a while and
parted with a almost chaste
good night kiss

I arrive in monaco in the morning
I have reservations for Baccarat
at
9pm

I am most excited

a few days there
and
I am off to Madrid
which reminds me

dahlin do send me your email
so
I can let you know where i will be staying
in Madrid

Some day you need to send me some names/vintages of these wines you rave about. I fancy a good Chianti.

There are many inexpenseive fine wines in the world.

Many "good" French wines are actually very poor -- but the reviewers have been bribed. OR the vinyard had a good reputation.

Oh and many vinyards are switching over to screwtops as cork is ineffective in keeping the air out.

I happen to agree
my speciality is discovering
very inexpensive wines [$10-$20]
that are simply exquisite.

the majority of my collection
is less than $15 per bottle
with only a few prize vintages
in the $75-$150 range

I generally despise french wine
as being overpriced and of poor quality
especially the "best" vineyards

as for screwtops, boxes and other
technological advances

I refute them on style grounds

I do not buy wine in a box, I do not buy wine with screw top tops, I do not buy wine with plastic corks.

nor will I drink wine
from paper cups or plastic glasses
[pyrex is acceptible for outdoor parties]

perhaps I am a snob
but I greatly enjoy wine
and every aspect of such rituals
are precious to me

I shant allow them to be corrupted
in
my personal world.
