Rome with a view....
Jun. 30th, 2002 12:53 amSpent the day with my brazilian friend Fabio
and three lovely ladies we met from canada.
took quite a few more picture, half of which
I have uploaded here
there rest i forgot on a disc in my hotel room
looking forward to the world cup finals tomorrow
if Brazil wins, I pocket US$600 if they lose
I break even.
I have been invited to a party at the brazilian embassy
to watch the game, should be quite fun.
at the moment I am riding the tail end
of bliss created by diving into several delicious bottles of red wine
I really shouldnt be in control of any
motor vehicles at this point
[which is why I am here and not driving]
but should be alright in a little while
and if I remember correctly
there should be atleast one if not more
pictures of me in the latest batch
[definately a few more in the other disc]
it is much easier to get photos on oneself
when one has other people to take pictures for you.
I had a most intimate and profound philosophical discussion
in pigeon english tonight and greatly enjoyed it.
I saw the most beautiful woman of my life today,
I talked with her as well. We discussed the history of a fountain.
She was probably in her late seventies, with long silkworm spun platinum hair,
a figure which put to shame the nun I had been lusting over all afternoon,
and something else much harder to identify.
She reminded me of Rodin's sculpture of an old woman
where you cannot help see the face of a young woman
when you look at her you see her simulataneously at every stage of her life
a girl of sixteen
a woman of twenty
an inexperieced mother
a mature wife and lover
[to name a most limited few]
her proud face contains a lifetime of love, pain and memories
but most of all pride
she has lived to see her beautiful children
[for one's children are always beautiful to their mother]
[the world my deprive a mother of the belief that their children are]
[among the smartest or wisest apples in the barrell, but never will]
[it convince them that their children are not among the most beautiful.]
create even more beautiful children of their own
that peace of mind which comes from knowing that you
have suceeded as a parent, only comes when your children
are able to reprouduce and create healthy families of their own.
in two instants I could see her past
when she was a blossoming girl
how older men looked at her
with shamed longing
as a young woman
boys approached with trepidation
and married men gazed wistfully.
forward ten years
and young men would throw themselves
at her feet
add ten more
and her beauty would only increase
until her husband had restless nights
and the rest of the world
was restless with envy.
in the end
i suppose it was love
which swayed me
while beauty is my god
love is what sustains it
to create beauty one must love what one creates.
and this face
ageless and ancient
seven generations contained
in smooth and simple lines
I
was in awe
entranced
and three lovely ladies we met from canada.

Date: 2002-07-01 03:09 am (UTC)do so help to keep off the chill
of Rome's evening breeze.
a Fabio, is my friend from brazil
who I am travelling in Rome and Florence
with
[he is the other guy in the pictures]
I adore my linen shirts, and it was a delightful salad as well.
I never give much thought to weather, people really spend to much time thinking about it.
If it is hot, then it is hot, and my thinking about it wont change it.
