Life made interesting

My car was accidentally stolen this morning

I suppose this statistically has to happen every so often
and of course, if its going to happen, it will happen to me...

About 10 minutes ago
my doorbell rang

this may not seem like a strange occurrence
but you have to realize
that since I have moved into this house
it has rang maybe 4 times
my friends knock
strangers ring the bell

so being that I was lounging as I usually do
mostly naked around my house

I threw on my robe and went to the door

a man was standing there
he was a working class man
but clean and presentable
but definitely no-one I knew

We exchanged good mornings
and he was acting slightly bashful
I was expecting a solicitation of some sort
but the first words out of his mouth
where

"I stole your car for about an hour"

I was perplexed as you might imagine

then he proceeded to tell me the story
apparently, he had been asked to pick up his sisters car
a similar Honda civic to mine
he came down, walked up to the first car matching
the description he was given "old Honda civic"
unlocked it, started it and drove away
he reached his destination
and his sister
who promptly informed him
that is was not her car..

Nice enough fellow
even put 5 bucks in the gas tank

prolly should get the locks changed eh?

Yeah, it's all to lull you into a false sense of security ;) Hope he didn't rob a bank with it or something.

Reminds me of a friend who came to his car in a shopping mall to find the window smashed in and 2/3rds of his CD collection stolen. He said he didn't know what insulted him more -- that someone broke into his car or that someone didn't like his musical taste enough to actually leave CDs behind.

that is embarrassing
I had my car broken into once as well
only the opposite happened
I had two brand new (still boxed) Cd players
in the trunk and about 150 cds
they stole the CDs and left the CD players

Bastards

I can easily replace the cd players
I am still hunting for the odd cd which was stolen that day....

as for robbing a bank with it?
not worried
I got a great alibi for this morning

before i moved out here and married him my husband once called me to inform me that he had gone outside to go to work and someone had gone into his car (he didnt lock the doors...81' monte carlo..would you have??) and actually stolen the front seats out of it. left the stereo, left everything just took the front seat. pennsylvania is a strange starnge place i tell ya.

Leaving your car unlocked is actually a strategy here in Atlanta (of course, you don't leave anything valuable inside). It beats a broken window -- anyone who wants to poke around can help themselves. Stealing the seats, though...that'll look interesting on an insurance report.
