primarily an inherent and rational belief
in our superiority to the rest of humanity
and the intense ambition which supports it.
however
we differ in our approaches
to nearly everything
[except perhaps the french]
I respect his ambition but
disagree with his methods
for the most part
and on the topic of women
we almost universally disagree
but anyway
a mechanical engineer
thats hardcore stuff
impressive
since you dont work in engineering now
what do you do for a living?
Re:
Date: 2002-09-27 09:08 am (UTC)but, there is a lot more to purchasing than just placing POs.
we have to deal with forecasting analysis, service results to our customers, managing inventory to make sure we have enough or not too much, last time buys on parts that are getting ready to be obsolete, returns to our suppliers, etc.....
right now i am in mexico trying to help set up some processes on forecasting and upsides (meaning we tell our suppliers we want 100 parts weeks in advance and at the last minute we ask for 150 - so, they aren't prepared)
currently i work for Solectron b/c there was a divestiture last year at Nortel to CMAC, then, Solectron bought CMAC. i believe SLR is the largest CM in the world....it's fun

Date: 2002-09-27 05:07 pm (UTC)is that I actually understand
what you are talking about
*grin*
did you start working
when you were in college
or
did you already have your degree
at that point?
mexico seems to have been fun
atleast from your recent posts
how long are you down there for?
Re:
Date: 2002-09-27 05:39 pm (UTC)and, yes, i started at Nortel when i was 19...still in college...hadn't even decided my major...it just worked out that i was able to work there all through college and after, too....

Date: 2002-09-27 06:17 pm (UTC)I was in highschool
I do not remember it
but in the photos I seemed to be having
a good time
well do enjoy your weekend
business travel sucks if you dont get a chance
to experience the places you are travelling to
otherwise it just becomes a blur
or airport signs and identical hotel art
in different shades of pastel colors
Re:
Date: 2002-09-28 10:51 am (UTC)but, the days do run together....day after day working 12-13 hours a day...
no subject
Date: 2002-09-28 01:42 pm (UTC)most of my working life
consisted of 10+ hour days
seven days a week
although my personal record
was one hundred and thirty-eight hours
worked in a single week
[six days]
[one hour of rest each day]
[did not go home]
my girlfriend at the time
[who lived with me]
was seriously pissed
she had a hard time deciding
between the getaway weekend to NYC
for some shopping
I was offering by way of an apology
or dumping my ass
of course this charming man
swayed her towards shopping
but
let me tell you
spending six hours
in a victoria secret store
while under severe sleep deprivation
is truely surreal
even for a guy
who enjoys shopping
