by request ... or ... to ease the four wheel blues

so
a month or so ago
I
was
driving down
to central
Oregon on
my
ducati

[something I noticed]
[my ducati has a nice ring to it]
[much better than]
[your ducati or his ducati]
[or even that ducati]
[but anyway]

for
much of the trip
I
was making
good time
[read cruising]
[at high velocity]

I stopped in salem
ate dinner

got back on I-5 south
for
two miles
took
highway 22
east

if you have never been
this is
a great road

long
mostly straight
the road
rolls
gentle ups
and gentle downs

so
anyway
I am cruising about
70
there is
light traffic

and occasionally
I will get a clear stretch of
road
and
open the throttle
a bit

the
speed limit posted
is
50

[wait]
[I need to go earlier]
[so]
[this being the first long trip]
[on my bike]
[I had not]
[realized that]
[the full down]
[riding position]
[the racing crouch]
[would be the most]
[comfortable ride]

[I had positioned my]
[rear view mirrors]
[to]
[provide the]
[best area of vision]
[from]
[the straight up sitting]
[position]

so
to make this short
I could not see
behind me

which was
unfortunate

and you can
imagine my
surprise as
I hear the
whoop-whoop
of
a police siren
behind me

so
I look behind me
and
he has
me
dead to rights
he is
smack on my tail
lights flashing

cursing
I
pull over

kill my engine
drop my kickstand
pull off my helmet

the officer approaches
[a sheriff's deputy]

"afternoon" he says

"afternoon officer" I reply

"how are you today?" he asks

"quite well and yourself?" I reply

"I am well, Son, do you know why I pulled you over?" [yep that's him again]

"No sir, not really" I reply

Do you know how fast you were going?

"No sir, not really"

"how fast do you think you were going?"

"Not really sure sir, probably about 70?"

"Do you know what the speed limit is here"

"No sir, not really"

"The speed limit on this road is 50"

"oh"

"yeah I have been following you since I-5"

[oh fuck - i think]

he continues-
"paced you most of the time around 70,
every so often you would open her up,
and be way out in front of me"

*sheepish grin*
yeah its my first trip out on her
must have gotten a little carried away. - I said

So I was sitting there
trying to think of a reason
not to pull you over but
you just weren't helping me much
"Can I have your license, and insurance please."

now for those of you
who don't know

I do not have a license
let alone a motorcycle endorsement
nor did I at this moment
have my insurance card
with me

so
my wallet is
in my tank bag
but
I am standing behind the
bike
my vehicle registration
however is
in my trunk
so
I open the trunk up
and start digging through
the
stuff in there

hand my registration
to the officer and
keep digging
after about
five minutes
I scratch my head
look rather confused
turn to the officer
and
say

"damn I cant find my wallet"
"must have left it back in Salem"
"when I stopped for dinner"

to which
he replies

"Don't worry about it"
"I wasn't going to write you a ticket anyway"
"just keep the speed down for me"

"yes sir" I say

I light a smoke
we chat for
a few minutes about the
bike

and he leaves.

and
I
much relieved
finish my smoke

and
I
drive on.

So what's it like, leading a charmed life?

as folks in yer part of the world would say

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2001-08-28 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
it feels
purty darn speshial

*grin*

of course
with the right perspective
any
life
can be charmed
it just takes
creativity and
a wee bit
of
luck

the latter
I have in abundance

I think I've figured it out -
you aren't telling me your real name because
you are Daylite ... yep ... that must be it!
That story clinches my theory: Ducati, hometown in Oregon, complete lack of preparedness, bizarre good luck ...

I would like to have a Ducati.

hehehehe

*grin*

well lets check your score....

ducati - check

hometown in oregon - nope

complete lack of preparedness - nope
[I had a nice bottle of bourbon so]
[I wasnt completly unprepared.]

bizarre good luck - check

guess that puts you
at 2 for 4

to help fill in the blanks

I was born on a lesbian commune in
the missouri ozarks

but my hometown is Seattle
as I moved here when I was
a year old.

as for preparedness, I am always exceedingly well prepared, it is just usually for the wrong thing.

and yeah
you would like
having a ducati

it is an essential part
of a nutrious breakfast

mmmmmmmy ducati

I'd really like to try that on for size!

ohhhhhhhhhhhh yeeeeeaaaah

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2001-08-28 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
its something
I highly recommend
for most people

gotta love
the
way it
rolls of the tongue

You were in my stomping grounds! :) When you hit the tree line rising up past Stayton.. where the small farms give way to forest and take a back road south a little over ten miles.. Go under a covered bridge and then up the side of my mountain.. And you would have been here!

Too Bad. Would have been nice to have seen a ducati resting in my gravel driveway.

heh

didnt realize
I was so close

there was actually
a few people
I would have stopped
and visited with along the
drive if I had

a) planned it better
and
b) not been 3 hours late leaving the office.

was partially hauling ass to
try to be nightfall, as
I had heard the signage to
where I was going was
not exactly clear.
[the other part]
[of the ass hauling]
[was]
[pure fun]

[identity profile] budhaboy.livejournal.com 2001-09-03 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
you are nothing if not lucky...

why in the world don't you have a license, bubba?

[identity profile] girl-on-a-stick.livejournal.com 2001-09-06 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. To be on an Italian motorcycle back in Oregon, where I will always call "home."
Sigh.
Bliss.

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2001-09-06 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
bliss
it was

and

I cant wait
to do
it
again
