pluralmeet with a few of the boys for our usual friday happy hour
much drinking and schmoozing ensued
then we retired to my home to smoke some Bolivar Churchills
[one of the best cubans I have ever had and always a favourite in my home]
I popped a bottle of macallan 1990 elegencia that I picked up in the states
and threw my extensive collection of old jazz on random
we spent a couple hours, smoking tasty cigars talked about society,
sailing and other more impolite topics
then I was hungry and since none of us had eaten
suggested that I whip something up
they didn't want me to go through the trouble and suggested pizza
*sigh*
I told them it was no trouble would just whip up some pasta
it would take about twenty minutes
put some water on the stove
showed the boys the wine cellar
which was greeted by the comment
"Just who are you?"
of course what was meant was
what the hell are you doing up here
I whipped up the following
herb encrusted chicken sauteed elephant garlic wafers
linguine draped in a honey mustard raspberry sauce
asparagus in a yellow curry butter drizzle
and while I had planned a white wine
they had stated a preference for red
so I popped one of my favorite bottles
of a light french table wine
which has a hint of raspberry in the palette
and so fit in quite well with the meal
it was of course
entirely fabulous
and am I trying to see if I can schedule
a dinner party for Wednesday
so as to include the wives/girlfriends
[not to mention actually have an excuse to cook something special]
we retired to the living room for cigarettes and cognac
and vitriolic discussions on bastardry
[or politics as it is sometimes called]
