today was a fucking amazing and fantastic day

I got to ride some beautiful twisties
grazing my knee ever so lightly on the pavement
[I don't have pucks on my cordura suit so grinding is a bad idea]

three hundred miles of pure heaven
makes jack a damn happy boy

of course all things have their cost
and true to form my devils luck held fast
spitting in the eye of fate without the slightest compunction

what ever I am I talking about?

well I was given a choice today
a choice with zero good options
I had a fraction of a second to make my decision

the choice was simple, car or ditch

I chose ditch and hit the ground at around sixty miles an hour
luckily because of the rain storm yesterday, the field I ended up in
[I jumped the ditch - look ma I can fly! .... hehehehe]
was fairly soft mud and not entirely horrible to land in

They say any wreck you walk away from is a good wreck
I say any wreck you ride away from is fucking awesome

The damage to my bike is minimal and it appears entirely cosmetic
[I rode her for the rest of the day and she seems fine]
the entire right side plastics are toast, I have to replace the centerpiece as well
although I might be able to salvage the underside, but I have to clean off the mud first to see
if there is more damage than I was able to see at the roadside inspection

as for me, well as I said I walked away
although limped is probably more accurate
and unlike bettie I heal
I didn't hit my head so I will go to the doctor tomorrow for a more thorough eval
[there was no mud on my helmet so I know for a fact I didn't hit my head]
but
my preliminary self exam suggests that
I cracked two or three ribs, possibly fractured my ankle
jammed my thumb and did something entirely painful to my shoulder
and of course the usual assortment of bruises and bumps

anyway nothing serious and more importantly
nothing that kept me from riding the rest of the day
I will let yall know what the doctor says tomorrow
as well as post pics of my poor bettie.

I am in a terrific mood, as soon as I finish calling my family
to let them know that I love them
I am planning on taking a nice long hot bath
and curling up with a good book

of course if any delectable young thang cares to come nurse my wounds
I can promise you will not have to twist my arm

love love

be well

Life is a glorious thing, especially when it continues against most odds

Oh my goodness!

I am glad to hear that you made it out in relatively good shape. I never enjoy spilling, and I've had my share. Gravel and I are enemies...

Interesting note: I almost lost it today as well...coming around a left hander that was wet and slippery as hell...the shadows cast by the redwoods overhead made it quite inconspiciuous...I was getting lazy and wasn't weighting the outside footpeg as I came around...next thing I know my rear tire has lost traction...put my foot down to upright myself and rode it out...had to stop after to change my underwear ;)

At any rate...glad that you made it out in one (slightly bruised and damaged) piece. Hope Bettie is OK. If you're like me, you are probably more pissed about the damage to the bike. Like my friend always tells me, "I heal for free, my bike doesn't"

Dancing with Fate again I see

Glad the results weren't more painful than they could have been.

and he lives !!!! [holds up a scored card] "9" on form (nobody really "falls" gracefully) - "10" overall. Give the man his medal!! Cracked ribs? Ouch -- that one smarts. Best to you for a quick recovery w/minimal pain and a small inconspicuous scar -- to instigate a story to tell later on --!!!

:schmirk:

the devil in me thinks that a man with the true devils luck wouldn't have had to make the choice at all...

I've never laid a bike down.

Guido just informed me that he is sending over
a sweet lil delectable thang to nurse you back to health.

Go easy on her, and take care of yourself.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Buffster will never ride a motorcycle. I haven't got have the self control you do, so I wouldn't be able to keep it under 140. My choice between car and ditch would have been fatal.

nah that would be good luck
which is decidedly different than devils luck

good luck is finding twenty bucks on the street
devils luck is finding a hundred bucks on the street
which is awesome cause it will keep the bookies from breaking your legs till next week

devils luck only applies after you have gotten into the shit
it is when something horrible happens but you manage to end up
despite all odds much better off than anyone else would

well by rights, mine should have been as well
or atleast it should have earned me a nice hospital stay

actually if I hadnt been wearing my jacket with the full backplate
[it is designed just like a flak vest, will prolly stop a .38]
I would most likely be in a wheel chair today
I have a six inch bruise on my back
two cracked ribs and a bruised vertabrae
and that is through the back plate
I would be fucked if I didnt have that plate

guess my guardian angels were on the ball yesterday
gonna have to do an extra chicken sacrifice this month

sounds like a fun day...a little ride, a little mud, a little life appreciation.

by the way, I'm thinking about adding you, any problems with that? I rarely add unless I check first to see if its okay.

cool.

you seem to have a lot of friends, I'll try and stand out.

on crutches or hopping like a real man?

cant have crutches
with crack ribs and fucked up shoulder
cant really hop with the above either
so
I have been limping like a real gimp
mostly
although recently I have almost been able
to fake a normal walk
if one overlooks that I sound like a drunken sailor
muttering exclamitories every few feet anyway
*grin*

hmmmmmmmmm' the shops here in austin seem to only have ikon *icon?* and joe rocket.......i got the joe rocket reactor........leather upper and a mmesh lower......the back plate is removeable...but it has skid pads sewn into the arms and back already......i took out the extra ones because it made the jacket ride up my neck....and it restricted my head movement....ive been curious as to how much protectionn i had removed......

im gunna add you to my reading list......you may remember me as sammystudio.......
