Six one way, half dozen the other

and life moves on
relentless

yesterday
the power supply on my main computer took a dive

fortunately nothing else seems to have taken a hit
and since I only have one of my three puters up and running at the moment
[yeah yeah I know, I am a lazy bastard]
I was able to canabalize a power supply from one of the others
to get my puter up an running

I did seven loads of laundry
exciting stuff that was

my MAC card
[a lil smart chip card my apartment complex provides]
[for access to common areas, like the laundry room]
took a dive as well
but I was able to pop the latch with a credit card
and get into the laundry room anyway
[one of the many benefits of a misspent youth]
only to find out that all the laundry machines
require the MAC card to work
apparently you add funds to the MAC card
and then use it to pay for your laundry

standing outside smoking a cigarette
wondering what the fuck I am going to do now
and not particularly wanting to carry the hundred and fifty pounds of laundry
back to my car unwashed

a young woman arrives to use the health club
and with a charming smile, I ask if she would be willing to let me use her MAC card to do some laundry
it worked out well as she apparently has a W/D in her unit, so doesnt use the MAC card for such purposes
with borrowed MAC card in hand
I head back triumphant to start my task
a handful of ones in hand to charge the card
the machine doesnt take ones
only fives, tens, and twenties
what the hell do you mean it doesnt take ones

searching my pockets I locate a single ten
hiding itself away behind my cigarettes
load it into the machine
take my newly charged card
and we're off

two hours later
I have a joyous amount of folding done
and load my car with lots and lots of clean laundry
Yay

now on to what I have been waiting most of the day for
the airport

my cats flew in at 9:38pm
and
I of course was late
still folding those damn clothes

showed up to air cargo
asked about the boys
and was greeted almost instantly
with a chorus of mews and meows
that didnt stop until about half an hour after I got home

after showing them their litter box and food dish
and something of a love fest
that left the laundry room floor looking like a cat had
spontaneously combusted

I let them explore their new home
and went into the office
to work on a paper for my english class
[which I just noticed, started one minute ago]
[oops]
I have the opening page due this morning.
and damn if I dont have almost two already
although I think I am going to cut out a large section
of what I wrote, and focus on a different perspective
I figure I will do that after showing what I have now
as opposed to maybe coming up a bit short

Urgh! My building uses the dreaded MAC system too.
In three years I've had 4(!) cards go bad on me.
They are extra sensitive little beasts, best kept in an envelope, in a safe, in a vaccum.

my rough luck comes in whole day increments

I count myself fortunate

I have been through 2 in less than a week
went to get a new one this morning
and they are out
waiting on resupply
the only thing they had was one
mishapen pitiful wretch
and I passed
figuring that it is better to know you can get in
than think you can
