So
I had dinner with
my grandparents tonight

it was actually quite pleasant
well
as pleasant as a third degree can be

they definitely were pushing
the marriage agenda
[hear that ladies, hop hop]

but not in an overly annoying way

and

I have to confess
it felt unreasonably good
when my grandfather
[a very wealthy man]
nodded slightly
and confessed that he had never
made the kind of money that I do

of course
he is just talking salary
not what his investments provide
but
there was a sense of respect
in the way he said it

the way he looked at me
it was different
as if he was taking me seriously
for the first time

my relationship with this set of grandparents
hasn't been the greatest lately
quite a bit of strain between us
and part of me expected that I would be
less exposed to a comment like that
but
it affected me
far more than I would have thought
and
I have to confess
it felt good
