i don't go to a casino
to win money
i go to play
as i enjoy the games

suckers go to win money

favor the house
yet

but
rather than quit
while i am a head

take out
my original cash
plus twenty percent of that amount
and
play with the rest
till it is all gone

which i did tonight
i won back my original dough
[as i most uncharacteristically lost five bills last night]

then proceeded to play
caribbean stud poker
a game which i know
but never before now
played for money

anyway
i won two grand
my third hand

so i took out
four bills
and my original stake
set it aside
and played
mostly recklessly
for the next four hours

and now
it is all
gone

it was amusing
after winning that third hand
i got to talking with one of the pit bosses
about odds and winnings and the like
a dozen hands later or so

i picked up my hand

ace of spades

nine of spades

i laughed loudly
and showed him my hand

he said

"if that was me i would be pissed"

i laughed again

if that nine had been a ten
i would have won
