why is it people
attempt to hide
the simple fact
that we
as a species
enjoy to watch
our own kind suffer

although perhaps
not out of outright
sadism

but we do
from staring at
bloody accident scenes
to watching police shoot outs
to public executions

we get our rocks off
watching our own kind
get whacked

which also explains
gory horror movies and
gruesome action flicks

its just a reality

yet we prance around all
damn day long
with
"empathy"
"political correct-ness"
and
pretend we are
some utopia
a
"kinder gentler nation"

it is a load of crap

we
enjoy
pain, suffering and misery
especially someone else's

"when animals attack"
is not educational

it may be fun
and exciting
(which is my point here)

but there is
no other reason
for watching a shark
gnaw off a guys leg
than you enjoy
the fact that he
is suffering and
you aren't

we lie
every day
to our children

tell them that
life is fair
and
preach about justice

nothing is ever fair
and
if it is ever just
it is by
accident or
coincidence

Justice is bought
whoever has the most dollars
has the most justice

Fairness is how
people justify
taking advantage of you

Nature
by her nature
is cruel
harsh and unforgiving

who are we
humans to
say that
we know better?

when was the last time
you heard a bear
grumbling that
it wasn't fair
that
a hawk
swooped down
and stole
his carefully caught fish

comes down
to simple truths

life is hard
we are insignificant
and
nothing
is ever
fair

Sitting here
minding my own business
writing the previous post
when
my phone rang
I checked the caller id

773

where the hell is that?

checked the name
and that I recognized

you see it goes back a few years
almost six to be exact

I had just moved to Kansas City
and
started a job at
Gateway 2000

support technician

wild and crazy days

I became friends
with another tech
in new hire training

an upstanding (mostly)
fellow
we got along instantly

in my
other life
in Kansas city
I simultaneously
met a girl
with
quick wit
and a
generally unpleasant demeanor

I liked her already...

For several months
they were my closest friends

each belonging to a different
circle of my friends

then one day
by curse of coincidence

the two
whom I adored most
met

and

well

the rest was history

they have been married now
around 4 years

well
as life moves on
I moved to Atlanta
and then to Jackson Mississippi
I moved to Seattle
they got married
they moved to Chicago

I flew out for the wedding
and it was great to see
them both

it is amazing how
even time and distance
does not diminish the fact
that they were
counted amongst
my best friends

as it always did
time and distance
made staying in touch
difficult
and
for the past
two maybe three years I guess
we had been out of touch

until
my phone rang

apparently
one can find out
a lot more about me
on the Internet
than I knew

but for once
I was glad

so old friends
welcome back
you
were
missed
