my two "friends"
checked out of the hotel
this morning

you see
one of them
is pissed because
he thought he could get the girl

the other is pissed
because the first tells him he should be

you know what is really fucked up
is
the guy in question has spent
the last ninety days
cooing over
a certain woman
and talking about how much
she means to him

a girl who is also a friend of mine
three days after she leaves
he is hopping like a
horny six month puppy
over some hot chick

the first hasn't spoken to me
since the girl in question
kissed me in the club
instead he stormed off

the second tells me
in the only conversation we had since
that
it was uncool to step in on a friend like that

however
i didn't "get the girl"

he made his move
she politely diverted it

and

later it was she
who made the move
not i

i was just having fun
and
more fun
and more fun after that

both of these boys
are just boys
and
are pretty decent people
once you get past the bullshit
it is just
that there is so much
posturing and bravado

and so little understanding
of themselves

did i act
inappropriately
as a bad friend

i can not imagine i did

everything i said i would do
i
did
without diversion

now i realize
and have known for sometime
that
they did not understand friendship
or
life

but i had invested myself
in
trying to give them
a clue

wasted effort i suppose
but i despise
giving up on people
