I decided to rant here
rather than leave a long ass comment
so
without further ado



I may be the atypical while
male oppressor type

but i have generally seen
that
the difference in pay levels
not only between
men and women
but between individuals
performing the same job
is
primarily determined
by
what they will accept

i generally have
been paid more than
my coworkers for doing
the same or similar work

even though many of them
work harder than I

too many people
accept the first offer
or even a slightly higher second
offer

when i am negotiating a job
before an offer is on the table
[often before i even interview]
i express my expectations with regard to
salary and benefits
[i.e. if it is less than XX thousand]
[you can save yourself a stamp]

and if they meet my expectations
i
still generally refuse
citing the need to fully
consider their proposal inline
with the other offers on the table
and
encourage them saying that
while the position is among
the most desirable of those i am considering
i would be negligent to fail to properly
consider all comparable offers

another great way to up
your compensation package
is to discuss severance

severance packages are
one of life’s great pleasures
[and if properly written]
[greatly ease the sting of]
[being fired or laid off]

I generally require at a minimum
three months severance pay
of course in some cases
i have been willing to
trade that for cold hard cash
added to my base salary

the key thing to remember
is
that everything is negotiable
from salary to benefits
vacation to severance pay
you have to bring all these cards
to the table so that
you can sacrifice some
to boost your salary
or increase some to make up for
a smaller than desired salary
[for example a company I worked for]
[came up about 5g short on salary]
[than I wanted, they had met all my other requests]
[and the job seemed really neat]
[so I bumped my vacation up from]
[the three weeks I had previously negotiated]
[to five weeks and added a month to my]
[Severance period]

many people
both women and men
i have known
are afraid to ask for
more money
they accept it when
an employer says
"the position pays X dollars"

and are afraid that if they
ask for more that they
wont get the job

yeah that's true
you may not get the job

but i would rather
wait for a job
where i was properly
appreciated and treated with respect
and trade that
for all the happy joyjoy shit
and gold stars

in business
[that's what work is]
[i will provide an exception for]
[you glorious souls that]
[work for non-profit companies]

if they wont match
their praise with dollars
then they are lying through
their teeth

money talks
and
bullshit walks

Hell after these last few days and weeks
